Description
A delightful sweet snack made with saltine crackers, butter, brown sugar, and chocolate, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 sleeves of saltine crackers (about 40 crackers)
- 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional, such as pecans or walnuts)
- Sea salt for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a 10×15-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easy removal.
- Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, covering the entire surface.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, stir in the brown sugar and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Allow it to boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
- Carefully pour the hot butter and sugar mixture over the saltine crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, until the mixture is bubbly and the edges are starting to brown.
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot mixture. Let them sit for a minute to soften, then spread the melted chocolate evenly over the top.
- If using, sprinkle the chopped nuts and a pinch of sea salt over the chocolate layer.
- Allow the brickle to cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes, then transfer to the refrigerator to chill for at least 1 hour until set.
- Once set, break into pieces and serve.
Notes
- For a festive touch, add crushed peppermint candies on top of the chocolate during the holiday season.
- Try using different types of chocolate, such as white chocolate or dark chocolate, for a unique flavor twist.
