  • Yield: 12 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

A delightful sweet snack made with saltine crackers, butter, brown sugar, and chocolate, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sleeves of saltine crackers (about 40 crackers)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional, such as pecans or walnuts)
  • Sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a 10×15-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, covering the entire surface.
  3. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, stir in the brown sugar and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Allow it to boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
  4. Carefully pour the hot butter and sugar mixture over the saltine crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, until the mixture is bubbly and the edges are starting to brown.
  6. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot mixture. Let them sit for a minute to soften, then spread the melted chocolate evenly over the top.
  7. If using, sprinkle the chopped nuts and a pinch of sea salt over the chocolate layer.
  8. Allow the brickle to cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes, then transfer to the refrigerator to chill for at least 1 hour until set.
  9. Once set, break into pieces and serve.

Notes

  • For a festive touch, add crushed peppermint candies on top of the chocolate during the holiday season.
  • Try using different types of chocolate, such as white chocolate or dark chocolate, for a unique flavor twist.
