Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup whole milk, warmed to about 110°F
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons matcha powder
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, salt, and ground cinnamon.
- In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and egg.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until combined.
- Add the matcha powder and mix until incorporated.
- Gradually add the remaining ½ cup of flour, kneading the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 12×18 inches).
- Spread the softened butter over the dough.
- In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the buttered dough.
- Starting from one long side, tightly roll the dough into a log.
- Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Cover with a towel and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the rolls are baking, prepare the icing by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Once the rolls are done, drizzle the icing over them while they are still warm.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg to the filling.
- You can also substitute almond milk for a dairy-free version.
- For a fun twist, try adding chopped nuts or dried fruit to the filling before rolling.
