- 2 1/2 pounds Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 garlic cloves minced
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Gruyère cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Pinch of nutmeg optional
Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a baking dish.
Slice potatoes thinly.
Make the creamy sauce by melting butter, adding garlic and flour, then whisking in milk, cream, and cheese.
Layer potatoes and sauce in the baking dish.
Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes.
Let cool and serve.
