  • 2 slices of fresh sourdough bread
  • 1 large ripe tomato, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 leaves of fresh basil (optional)
  • 1 slice of sharp cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Toast the sourdough bread slices until golden brown and crispy.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise and Dijon mustard until well combined.
  3. Spread the mayonnaise mixture evenly on one side of each slice of toasted bread.
  4. Layer the tomato slices on one slice of bread, overlapping them slightly.
  5. Sprinkle salt and freshly ground black pepper over the tomato slices to enhance flavor.
  6. If using, add the fresh basil leaves and the slice of cheddar cheese on top of the tomatoes.
  7. Place the second slice of bread on top, mayonnaise side down, to complete the sandwich.
  8. Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately.
