- 2 slices of fresh sourdough bread
- 1 large ripe tomato, sliced
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 leaves of fresh basil (optional)
- 1 slice of sharp cheddar cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Toast the sourdough bread slices until golden brown and crispy.
- In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise and Dijon mustard until well combined.
- Spread the mayonnaise mixture evenly on one side of each slice of toasted bread.
- Layer the tomato slices on one slice of bread, overlapping them slightly.
- Sprinkle salt and freshly ground black pepper over the tomato slices to enhance flavor.
- If using, add the fresh basil leaves and the slice of cheddar cheese on top of the tomatoes.
- Place the second slice of bread on top, mayonnaise side down, to complete the sandwich.
- Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately.
Notes
- For added crunch, include slices of cucumber or avocado.
