A simple and delicious recipe for homemade Sweet Chili Sauce that can be used as a dipping sauce or glaze.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water (for cornstarch slurry)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, water, rice vinegar, soy sauce, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes. Stir well to combine.
  2. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry. Once the sauce is boiling, slowly whisk in the cornstarch slurry.
  4. Continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the sesame oil if using. Allow the sauce to cool before transferring it to a jar or container.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add more red pepper flakes or a dash of sriracha to the sauce.
  • This sauce can be used as a dipping sauce for spring rolls, grilled chicken, or as a glaze for roasted vegetables.
