Description

Philly Cheesesteak French Onion Soup is a delicious twist on the classic French onion soup, combining the flavors of a Philly cheesesteak with rich beef broth and melted cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 slices crusty French bread
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers, and sauté until they are soft and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
  2. Add the thinly sliced beef sirloin to the pot and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for an additional 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. Preheat your oven broiler.
  5. Ladle the soup into oven-safe bowls. Top each bowl with a slice of French bread, then layer with provolone cheese and a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese.
  6. Place the bowls on a baking sheet and broil in the oven for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Carefully remove from the oven and let cool for a minute. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the soup.
  • You can also substitute the beef with thinly sliced chicken or turkey for a lighter version.
