Description

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons matcha green tea powder
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs

  • ½ cup milk
  • For the frosting:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons matcha green tea powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with paper liners.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and matcha powder until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  6. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cupcakes to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. For the frosting, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing well. Add the heavy cream, matcha powder, and vanilla extract, and beat until smooth and fluffy.
  8. Once the cupcakes are completely cool, frost them with the matcha buttercream using a piping bag or a spatula.

  • For a lighter version, substitute half of the butter with unsweetened applesauce.
