- 1 cup red lentils, thoroughly rinsed
- 1 ½ cups water
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- ½ teaspoon ground cumin
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- Optional: a sprinkle of sesame seeds or flaxseeds for garnish
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine the rinsed red lentils with water and bring to a vigorous boil over medium-high heat.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer gently for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the lentils are tender and most of the water has been absorbed.
- After cooking, take the saucepan off the heat and allow the lentils to cool for a few minutes.
- Transfer the lentils to a blender or food processor and add in the garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, cumin, smoked paprika, black pepper, and olive oil.
- Blend until you achieve a smooth, creamy consistency.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
- Pour the lentil mixture onto the baking sheet and spread it out evenly, aiming for a thickness of about ¼ inch.
- If you like, sprinkle sesame seeds or flaxseeds over the top for an extra crunch.
- Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges turn a lovely golden brown and the center feels firm to the touch.
- Once done, take it out and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing it into your preferred shapes.
- Allow the crisps to cool completely on a wire rack.
- Store any leftovers in a sealed container at room temperature for up to a week.

- For an extra kick, feel free to mix in a dash of cayenne pepper or chili powder before blending.
- You can also play around with various herbs or nutritional yeast to tailor the flavor to your preference.
