Description
Crispy Goat Cheese Poppers with Honey are irresistibly delicious bites that combine creamy goat cheese with a crunchy exterior, drizzled with sweet honey.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 ounces goat cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup honey
- Fresh herbs (like thyme or parsley) for garnish (optional)
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, scoop the softened goat cheese and form it into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for 30 minutes to firm up.
- Set up a breading station: In one shallow dish, place the flour. In a second dish, beat the egg. In a third dish, combine the panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Remove the cheese balls from the freezer and roll each ball in the flour, then dip it in the beaten egg, and finally coat it with the seasoned panko breadcrumbs.
- In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F.
- Carefully add the breaded cheese balls to the hot oil in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
- Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Drizzle the warm goat cheese poppers with honey and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- For a spicy twist, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the breadcrumb mixture.
- For a sweeter option, try using maple syrup instead of honey for drizzling.
