- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the water, butter, salt, and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Once boiling, remove from heat and add the flour all at once. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Let the dough cool for about 5 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.
- Using a pastry bag or a spoon, pipe or scoop small mounds of dough (about 1.5 inches wide) onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each mound.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the buns are puffed and golden brown. Do not open the oven door during baking.
- Remove from the oven and let cool completely on a wire rack.
- While the choux buns cool, whip the heavy cream with vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
- Once the buns are cool, slice them in half and fill each with whipped cream.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and vegetable oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
- Dip the tops of the filled choux buns into the chocolate glaze and let the excess drip off.
- Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 2 hours before serving.
Notes
- For a lighter option, substitute half of the heavy cream with Greek yogurt.
- Consider infusing the whipped cream with a tablespoon of espresso powder or a splash of almond extract for added flavor.
