Description
Chickpea Tofu is a simple and nutritious plant-based alternative to traditional tofu, made from chickpea flour.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup chickpea flour
- 1 1/4 cups water
- 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together the chickpea flour, water, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, turmeric powder, and salt until smooth and free of lumps.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it thickens and pulls away from the sides of the pan, about 5-7 minutes.
- Once thickened, transfer the mixture to a greased 8×8-inch baking dish or a similar-sized container. Spread it evenly and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until firm.
- Once chilled and firm, remove the chickpea tofu from the dish and cut it into cubes or slices.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chickpea tofu pieces and cook until golden brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
- Serve warm as a protein-packed addition to salads, stir-fries, or grain bowls.
Notes
- For added flavor, mix in herbs or spices such as cumin, paprika, or fresh herbs before cooking.
- Experiment with different cooking methods: try baking or air frying the chickpea tofu for a crispy texture.
