Description

Chickpea Tofu is a simple and nutritious plant-based alternative to traditional tofu, made from chickpea flour.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup chickpea flour
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the chickpea flour, water, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, turmeric powder, and salt until smooth and free of lumps.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it thickens and pulls away from the sides of the pan, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Once thickened, transfer the mixture to a greased 8×8-inch baking dish or a similar-sized container. Spread it evenly and smooth the top with a spatula.
  4. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until firm.
  5. Once chilled and firm, remove the chickpea tofu from the dish and cut it into cubes or slices.
  6. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chickpea tofu pieces and cook until golden brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  7. Serve warm as a protein-packed addition to salads, stir-fries, or grain bowls.

Notes

  • For added flavor, mix in herbs or spices such as cumin, paprika, or fresh herbs before cooking.
  • Experiment with different cooking methods: try baking or air frying the chickpea tofu for a crispy texture.
