Description

Delightful bunny-shaped pinwheels made with puff pastry, filled with cheese, sausage, and spinach.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets of puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup cooked and crumbled sausage (or diced ham)
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh spinach
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each sheet of puff pastry to smooth out creases. Cut each sheet into a 12-inch square.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the mozzarella cheese, cooked sausage, spinach, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Spread the filling evenly over each puff pastry square, leaving a small border around the edges.
  5. Starting from one edge, roll the pastry tightly into a log. Slice each log into 1-inch thick pinwheels.
  6. Arrange the pinwheels on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Use a sharp knife to gently cut two ears on the top of each pinwheel to resemble bunny ears.
  7. Brush the tops of the pinwheels with the beaten egg to give them a golden color when baked.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pinwheels are puffed and golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, replace the sausage with diced bell peppers and mushrooms.
  • Add a teaspoon of dried herbs like oregano or basil to the filling for extra flavor.
