Description
Delightful bunny-shaped pinwheels made with puff pastry, filled with cheese, sausage, and spinach.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 sheets of puff pastry (thawed)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup cooked and crumbled sausage (or diced ham)
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh spinach
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Flour for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out each sheet of puff pastry to smooth out creases. Cut each sheet into a 12-inch square.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the mozzarella cheese, cooked sausage, spinach, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Spread the filling evenly over each puff pastry square, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Starting from one edge, roll the pastry tightly into a log. Slice each log into 1-inch thick pinwheels.
- Arrange the pinwheels on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Use a sharp knife to gently cut two ears on the top of each pinwheel to resemble bunny ears.
- Brush the tops of the pinwheels with the beaten egg to give them a golden color when baked.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pinwheels are puffed and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a vegetarian option, replace the sausage with diced bell peppers and mushrooms.
- Add a teaspoon of dried herbs like oregano or basil to the filling for extra flavor.
