- 2 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder

- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for Nutella buttercream)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup Nutella
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for Nutella buttercream)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the mashed bananas, eggs, and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the cake is cooling, prepare the Nutella buttercream. In a medium bowl, beat together the softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth. Add the Nutella, heavy cream, and vanilla extract, and beat until fluffy and well combined.
- Once the cake is completely cool, spread the Nutella buttercream evenly over the top of the cake. Slice and serve.
Notes
- For added texture, fold in 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts or pecans into the batter before baking.
- If you prefer a chocolate cake, substitute 1/4 cup of the flour with unsweetened cocoa powder for a chocolate banana cake.
