Description
Discover the ultimate spicy sauce with this Zhoug Recipe (Zhug), a vibrant herb sauce perfect for enhancing your meals.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup fresh cilantro, tightly packed
- 1 cup fresh parsley, tightly packed
- 2–3 green jalapeño peppers, with stems removed (adjust for desired heat)
- 4 cloves garlic, peeled
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 cup high-quality olive oil
- 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
Instructions
- Begin by placing the cilantro, parsley, jalapeños, garlic, cumin, coriander, and salt into a food processor. Blend until the mixture is finely chopped and well combined.
- While the processor is running, gradually pour in the olive oil, allowing it to emulsify with the herb mixture until it reaches a smooth consistency.
- Incorporate the lemon juice by pulsing the mixture a few times to ensure it’s evenly distributed. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
- Spoon the spicy herb sauce into a clean jar or an airtight container, then let it chill in the refrigerator for at least half an hour to enhance the flavors.
- This vibrant sauce pairs beautifully with grilled meats, roasted vegetables, or can be used as a zesty spread on your favorite sandwiches.
Notes
- For a milder flavor, consider removing the seeds from the jalapeños before blending.
- You can also add a handful of fresh mint for a refreshing twist or swap lemon juice for lime juice for an extra zing.
