  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • For the Chocolate Frosting:
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. While the cake is cooling, prepare the chocolate frosting. In a medium bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, mixing until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  8. Once the cake is completely cool, spread the chocolate frosting evenly over the top.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute half of the butter with unsweetened applesauce.
  • Add a layer of sliced strawberries or bananas between the cake and frosting for added flavor and texture.
