A delightful recipe for a classic Yellow Layer Cake with rich chocolate frosting, perfect for any celebration.

- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3 large eggs

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the softened butter, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth and well combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- While the cakes are cooling, prepare the chocolate frosting. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
- Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, and beat until smooth and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
- Slice and serve!
Notes
- For a fun twist, add a layer of fresh fruit or jam between the cake layers.
- To make a lemon version, replace the vanilla extract with lemon extract and add the zest of one lemon to the batter.
