- 8 ounces whole wheat pasta
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds

- Juice of 1 lemon
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions
- Begin by boiling a large pot of salted water.
- Cook the whole wheat pasta according to the package directions, adding the broccoli florets in the last 2-3 minutes of cooking.
- Once done, drain the pasta and broccoli, saving about 1/2 cup of the cooking water.
- In a skillet, warm the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the sliced almonds and sauté for 2-3 minutes until they turn a lovely golden hue, stirring frequently to avoid burning.
- Introduce the chopped garlic and optional crushed red pepper to the skillet, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until the garlic becomes aromatic.
- Combine the drained pasta and broccoli with the almond mixture in the skillet.
- Stir in the lemon zest, lemon juice, and the reserved pasta water.
- Mix everything thoroughly, seasoning with salt and pepper to your liking.
- If you wish, add the grated Parmesan cheese and give it another toss.
- Serve the dish warm, garnished with fresh parsley for an extra touch of flavor.
