  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan with 1 tablespoon of butter and set aside.
  3. In a small saucepan, melt 1/4 cup of butter over medium heat, then mix in the brown sugar and cinnamon until fully blended.
  4. Pour the caramel mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  5. Arrange the sliced pears on top of the caramel mixture in an even layer.
  6. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; whisk them together and set aside.
  7. In a large mixing bowl, beat the remaining 1/4 cup of butter with the granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  8. Add the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is well incorporated before adding the next.
  9. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  10. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, starting and finishing with the flour mixture.
  11. Pour the batter over the pear arrangement in the pan, smoothing it out evenly.
  12. Bake the cake for about 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  13. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before flipping it onto a serving plate.
