Description

A delightful spread made with dried figs, honey, and vanilla, perfect for toast or as an appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup dried figs, stems removed and chopped
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the chopped figs and water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for about 5 minutes, or until the figs are soft.
  2. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  3. Transfer the fig mixture to a blender or food processor. Add honey, vanilla extract, salt, and lemon juice. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  4. Taste and adjust sweetness if necessary by adding more honey.
  5. Pour the spread into a clean jar and let it cool completely before sealing. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Notes

  • For a spicier flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the mixture before blending.
  • This spread pairs wonderfully with cream cheese or goat cheese on toast or crackers for a delightful appetizer.
