Description

Delightful heart-shaped sugar cookies perfect for Valentine’s Day celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Red and pink sprinkles (for decoration)
  • Royal icing (optional for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, almond extract, and milk until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Divide the dough into two discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to firm up.
  7. On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disc of dough to about ¼ inch thick. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
  8. Sprinkle red and pink sprinkles on top of the cookies before baking, if desired.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Let cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. If using royal icing, decorate the cooled cookies as desired.

Notes

  • For a fun twist, add a teaspoon of lemon or orange zest to the dough for a citrus flavor.
  • Use different cookie cutters to create various shapes for different occasions, or decorate with colored icing for a more festive look.
