Description
Tourtière is a traditional Québécois winter meat pie, perfect for festive gatherings.

- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
- 2 refrigerated pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the ground pork and ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 8-10 minutes.
- Stir in the thyme, sage, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
- Pour in the chicken broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook for an additional 10 minutes, allowing the mixture to thicken slightly. If using, stir in the fresh parsley. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Roll out one pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan. Fill with the meat mixture, spreading it evenly.
- Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Crimp the edges to seal and cut a few slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the top crust with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
- Allow the pie to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or some diced jalapeños to the meat mixture.
- You can substitute the ground meats with turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
