  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until creamy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Gradually blend in the flour mixture until just combined.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheets for 2 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

  • For chewier cookies, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking.
  • Substitute half of the chocolate chips with white chocolate chips or peanut butter chips for a different flavor twist.
