Description
A delicious and easy recipe for Christmas Crack that everyone will love, featuring layers of saltine crackers, buttery caramel, and chocolate.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups saltine crackers (about 40 crackers)
- 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts, optional)
- 1 teaspoon sea salt (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a 10×15-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet, covering the entire surface.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add the brown sugar and stir continuously until the mixture comes to a boil. Allow it to boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
- Carefully pour the hot butter and sugar mixture over the saltine crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula to cover all the crackers.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, until the mixture is bubbly and the edges start to brown slightly. Keep a close eye on it to prevent burning.
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot mixture. Let them sit for 2-3 minutes to soften, then use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate evenly over the top.
- If desired, sprinkle the chopped nuts and sea salt over the chocolate layer. Allow the Christmas crack to cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes, then transfer it to the refrigerator to chill for at least 1 hour until fully set.
- Once set, lift the foil or parchment paper out of the baking sheet and break the crack into pieces. Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
Notes
- For a festive twist, add crushed peppermint candies on top of the chocolate before it sets.
- Try using different types of chocolate, such as white chocolate or dark chocolate, for varied flavors.
