A delicious and flaky Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish that is perfect for breakfast or dessert.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and granulated sugar.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add 1/4 cup of cold water, mixing until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and shape it into a rectangle. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- While the dough chills, prepare the cream cheese filling. In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- In another bowl, toss the sliced strawberries with lemon juice and set aside.
- Once the dough has chilled, roll it out into a large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into smaller squares (about 4×4 inches).
- Place a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each square, then top with a few slices of strawberries.
- Fold the corners of each square towards the center, pinching to seal. Place the danishes on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- To enhance the flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of almond extract to the cream cheese filling.
- For a twist, substitute blueberries or raspberries for the strawberries.
