Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups ripe tomatoes, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 packet (1/4 ounce) unflavored gelatin
- 2 tablespoons cold water
Instructions
- In a blender or food processor, combine the chopped tomatoes, basil, cream cheese, sour cream, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper (if using), and lemon juice. Blend until smooth and creamy.
- In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the cold water and let it sit for about 5 minutes to bloom.
- After blooming, heat the gelatin mixture in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds until dissolved. Stir it into the tomato mixture until well combined.
- Pour the mousse into serving dishes or ramekins and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.
- Serve chilled, garnished with additional basil leaves or a drizzle of olive oil if desired.
Notes
- For a creamier texture, you can substitute half of the sour cream with Greek yogurt.
- Add a pinch of fresh herbs like thyme or oregano for an extra layer of flavor.
