Ingredients
Scale
- 3 medium ripe pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger until combined. Remove from heat and pour the mixture into the prepared cake pan.
- Arrange the sliced pears evenly over the brown sugar mixture in the pan.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat together the granulated sugar and egg until light and fluffy. Add the buttermilk and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter over the arranged pears in the cake pan, spreading it evenly.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then carefully invert onto a serving plate. Let it cool slightly before slicing.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider adding chopped walnuts or pecans to the batter.
- Substitute the pears with apples or peaches for a different fruit variation.
