Description
A warm and comforting spiced mulled wine infused with orange and cinnamon, perfect for cozy gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups of robust red wine (Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon suggested)
- 1 cup of fresh apple cider
- 1 orange, cut into rounds
- 2 sticks of cinnamon
- 4 whole cloves
- 2 star anise pods
- 1/4 cup of honey or maple syrup (to taste)
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
Instructions
- Begin by pouring the red wine and apple cider into a large pot and heating it over medium flame.
- Introduce the orange rounds, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, honey or maple syrup, and vanilla essence into the pot.
- Gently stir the mixture to blend the flavors, then allow it to come to a gentle simmer without boiling.
- Lower the heat and let the concoction simmer for about 20 to 30 minutes, allowing the spices to infuse their warmth into the liquid.
- After simmering, taste the infusion and adjust the sweetness by adding more honey or syrup if desired.
- Once ready, take the pot off the heat and strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve to remove the spices and orange.
- Pour the warm infusion into mugs, and for an extra touch, garnish with additional orange slices or a cinnamon stick.
Notes
- For a delightful non-alcoholic alternative, replace the red wine with extra apple cider or grape juice.
- If you crave more spice, consider adding a dash of ground nutmeg or ginger to the mix.
