Description
A simple and delicious recipe for Spaetzle Dumplings, perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and nutmeg. Whisk together until well mixed.
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then add the milk and melted butter. Mix until combined.
- Gradually add the egg mixture to the flour mixture, stirring until a thick batter forms. The batter should be slightly sticky but still pourable.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Using a spaetzle maker or a colander with large holes, press the batter through into the boiling water. Alternatively, you can use a spoon to drop small amounts of batter into the water.
- Cook the dumplings for about 2-3 minutes or until they float to the surface. Remove them with a slotted spoon and transfer to a bowl.
- If desired, toss the cooked spaetzle with melted butter and chopped parsley for added flavor. Serve warm.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, try adding grated cheese to the spaetzle while they are still warm.
- You can also sauté the cooked dumplings in a pan with a little more butter until they are golden brown for a crispy texture.
