Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gradually add this mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Carefully stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth and thin.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Serve as is or frost with your favorite chocolate frosting.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of instant coffee granules to the batter.
- You can substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
