Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon tamari or soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tamarind paste
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 head of butter or romaine lettuce, leaves separated
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 cup sliced cucumber
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the sesame oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Drain excess fat from the skillet, then stir in the tamari or soy sauce, tamarind paste, brown sugar, rice vinegar, garlic powder, ginger powder, and red pepper flakes. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  3. Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the sesame seeds. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.
  4. To assemble the wraps, take a lettuce leaf and spoon a generous amount of the beef mixture into the center. Top with shredded carrots, sliced cucumber, and chopped green onions.
  5. Garnish with fresh cilantro if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!
