Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup scallions, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, and salt. Mix well.
  2. Gradually add the warm water and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Brush the surface of the dough with sesame oil and sprinkle the chopped scallions evenly over the top.
  7. Roll the dough tightly into a log, then cut the log into 8 equal pieces.
  8. Shape each piece into a bun and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Cover the buns with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  11. Brush the tops of the buns with a little water and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
  12. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  13. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a teaspoon of red pepper flakes to the scallion mixture.
  • You can substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
