Description

Delicious Salted Caramel Date & Walnut Spiral Rolls that are perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup pitted dates, chopped
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup salted caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the melted butter, egg, and the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Spread the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly over the dough.
  7. Sprinkle the chopped dates and walnuts on top.
  8. Drizzle the salted caramel sauce over the filling.
  9. Starting from one long edge, carefully roll the dough into a tight log.
  10. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces.
  11. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover with a cloth, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  12. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  13. Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  14. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with sea salt. Drizzle with additional caramel sauce if desired.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, try adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the dough.
  • You can also substitute pecans for walnuts for a different nutty taste.
  • For a chocolate twist, add mini chocolate chips to the filling.
