- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

- 1/2 cup cold buttermilk
- 1 large egg

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F.
- In a 10-inch cast-iron skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt, stirring until the mixture is bubbly and smooth.
- Arrange the apple quarters in the skillet, cut side down, and cook for about 10 minutes until they begin to soften.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the rye flour, baking powder, baking soda, and granulated sugar.
- In another bowl, combine the buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Once the apples are ready, pour the batter evenly over the apples in the skillet.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for about 5 minutes.
- Carefully invert the tart onto a serving plate.
- Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
