  • Author: Chef Hicham

  • Yield: 12-16 palmiers 1x

Description

Puff Pastry Christmas Palmiers are a delightful festive treat made with layers of flaky pastry, sugar, and spices, perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets of frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries, chopped (optional)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each sheet of puff pastry to smooth out creases and make it slightly larger.
  3. Sprinkle half of the sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly over one sheet of puff pastry. If using, add half of the chopped nuts and dried cranberries on top.
  4. Starting from one edge, roll the puff pastry tightly towards the center until you reach the middle. Repeat with the other edge, rolling towards the center to form a log.
  5. Wrap the rolled pastry in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to firm up.
  6. Once chilled, remove the pastry from the refrigerator and slice it into 1/2-inch thick pieces.
  7. Place the slices cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one.
  8. Brush the tops of the palmiers with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining sugar and cinnamon mixture over the top of each palmier.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  11. Allow to cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a festive twist, try adding a pinch of nutmeg or ginger to the sugar and cinnamon mixture.
  • You can also dip the cooled palmiers in melted chocolate for an extra indulgent treat.
