Description
A savory pork sandwich with a zesty beer glaze, perfect for a delightful meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound pork tenderloin, cut into thin strips
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 medium onion, sliced thinly
- 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 1 cup of your favorite beer (lager or ale works best)
- 1 tablespoon whole grain mustard
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 4 Portuguese rolls or any crusty sandwich rolls
- 1 cup sliced pickled jalapeños
- 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
- 1 large tomato, cut into rounds
- 4 slices of your choice of cheese (optional, like provolone or cheddar)
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and sauté until it becomes translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the chopped garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Raise the heat to medium-high and add the pork strips to the skillet. Season with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Sauté until the pork is nicely browned and fully cooked, around 5-7 minutes.
- Pour the beer into the skillet, mixing in the whole grain mustard and soy sauce. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and let it cook for about 10 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and develop flavor.
- While the sauce simmers, slice the Portuguese rolls in half and toast them lightly if you prefer a crunchier texture.
- Once the sauce has reached your desired thickness, start assembling the sandwiches. Spoon a generous amount of the pork mixture onto the bottom half of each roll. Top with pickled jalapeños, shredded lettuce, tomato slices, and cheese if desired.
- Cap each sandwich with the top half of the roll and serve hot for a delightful meal.
Notes
- For an extra spicy flavor, feel free to add more pickled jalapeños or a splash of your favorite hot sauce to the pork mixture.
- Try swapping the pork for chicken or beef to create a unique twist on this classic sandwich.
