Description

A savory pork sandwich with a zesty beer glaze, perfect for a delightful meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound pork tenderloin, cut into thin strips
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, sliced thinly
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 cup of your favorite beer (lager or ale works best)
  • 1 tablespoon whole grain mustard
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 4 Portuguese rolls or any crusty sandwich rolls
  • 1 cup sliced pickled jalapeños
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1 large tomato, cut into rounds
  • 4 slices of your choice of cheese (optional, like provolone or cheddar)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and sauté until it becomes translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the chopped garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  2. Raise the heat to medium-high and add the pork strips to the skillet. Season with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Sauté until the pork is nicely browned and fully cooked, around 5-7 minutes.
  3. Pour the beer into the skillet, mixing in the whole grain mustard and soy sauce. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and let it cook for about 10 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and develop flavor.
  4. While the sauce simmers, slice the Portuguese rolls in half and toast them lightly if you prefer a crunchier texture.
  5. Once the sauce has reached your desired thickness, start assembling the sandwiches. Spoon a generous amount of the pork mixture onto the bottom half of each roll. Top with pickled jalapeños, shredded lettuce, tomato slices, and cheese if desired.
  6. Cap each sandwich with the top half of the roll and serve hot for a delightful meal.

Notes

  • For an extra spicy flavor, feel free to add more pickled jalapeños or a splash of your favorite hot sauce to the pork mixture.
  • Try swapping the pork for chicken or beef to create a unique twist on this classic sandwich.
