Description

Pommes Anna is a classic French potato dish that features thinly sliced potatoes layered and baked to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (about 4 large potatoes)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (optional)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the thinly sliced potatoes with melted butter, salt, pepper, and thyme if using. Toss until the potatoes are well coated.
  3. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or oven-safe skillet with a little butter.
  4. Arrange a layer of potato slices in a circular pattern, slightly overlapping them. Continue layering until all the potatoes are used, pressing down gently to compact the layers.
  5. Pour any remaining butter over the top of the layered potatoes. If using, sprinkle the Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.
  6. Cover the pan with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
  8. Let the Pommes Anna cool for about 5 minutes before inverting onto a serving platter. Slice into wedges and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add minced garlic to the melted butter before tossing with the potatoes.
  • You can experiment with different herbs such as rosemary or parsley for added flavor.
