Description
Pommes Anna is a classic French potato dish that features thinly sliced potatoes layered and baked to perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (about 4 large potatoes)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (optional)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the thinly sliced potatoes with melted butter, salt, pepper, and thyme if using. Toss until the potatoes are well coated.
- Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or oven-safe skillet with a little butter.
- Arrange a layer of potato slices in a circular pattern, slightly overlapping them. Continue layering until all the potatoes are used, pressing down gently to compact the layers.
- Pour any remaining butter over the top of the layered potatoes. If using, sprinkle the Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.
- Cover the pan with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
- Let the Pommes Anna cool for about 5 minutes before inverting onto a serving platter. Slice into wedges and serve warm.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add minced garlic to the melted butter before tossing with the potatoes.
- You can experiment with different herbs such as rosemary or parsley for added flavor.
