- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup powdered sugar for rolling
- Red and blue food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Divide the dough into three equal parts. Leave one part plain, and color the second part with red food coloring and the third part with blue food coloring.
- Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Once chilled, scoop tablespoon-sized portions of each color and roll them into balls.
- Roll the balls in powdered sugar and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
- Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For a more vibrant color, add more food coloring as desired.
- These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
