Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup Nutella
  • For the frosting:
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup Nutella
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
  4. Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined; it will be thin.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold in the Nutella and vanilla extract until smooth.
  9. Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of Nutella frosting on top, then place the second cake layer on top.
  10. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining Nutella frosting.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add 1 cup of chocolate chips to the batter before baking.
  • You can substitute the heavy cream in the frosting with whipped topping for a lighter option.
