- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup Nutella
- For the frosting:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup Nutella
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.
- Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
- Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined; it will be thin.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- For the frosting, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold in the Nutella and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of Nutella frosting on top, then place the second cake layer on top.
- Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining Nutella frosting.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add 1 cup of chocolate chips to the batter before baking.
- You can substitute the heavy cream in the frosting with whipped topping for a lighter option.
