Ingredients

  • 1 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 package (16 oz) phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, toast the sliced almonds until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the toasted almonds, honey, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir until well combined.
  4. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush lightly with melted butter. Place another sheet on top and brush with butter again.
  5. Cut the layered phyllo into 3-inch wide strips.
  6. Place a tablespoon of the almond mixture at one end of each strip. Fold the sides over the filling and roll tightly to form a cigar shape.
  7. Place the cigars seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Brush the tops of the cigars with more melted butter.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • For a twist, try adding a pinch of cardamom to the almond mixture for extra flavor.
  • You can also substitute walnuts or pistachios for the almonds for a different nutty taste.
