Description
Easy and crispy tortilla chips made with masa harina.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups masa harina
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 cup warm water
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine masa harina, salt, and baking powder. Mix well.
- Add vegetable oil and warm water to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 2 minutes until smooth. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces.
- Preheat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium heat.
- Roll each piece of dough into a ball, then flatten it into a thin circle using a tortilla press or a rolling pin.
- Fry each tortilla in the hot oil for about 30 seconds on each side, or until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Once cooled, cut the tortillas into triangles to create chips. Fry the triangles in batches until crispy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Drain the chips on paper towels and sprinkle with salt while still warm.
Notes
- For extra flavor, try adding spices such as chili powder or garlic powder to the masa harina before mixing.
- You can also bake the tortilla chips instead of frying them; brush them lightly with oil and bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes until crispy.
