Description

Easy and crispy tortilla chips made with masa harina.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups masa harina
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup warm water
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine masa harina, salt, and baking powder. Mix well.
  2. Add vegetable oil and warm water to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 2 minutes until smooth. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces.
  4. Preheat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium heat.
  5. Roll each piece of dough into a ball, then flatten it into a thin circle using a tortilla press or a rolling pin.
  6. Fry each tortilla in the hot oil for about 30 seconds on each side, or until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  7. Once cooled, cut the tortillas into triangles to create chips. Fry the triangles in batches until crispy, about 2-3 minutes.
  8. Drain the chips on paper towels and sprinkle with salt while still warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, try adding spices such as chili powder or garlic powder to the masa harina before mixing.
  • You can also bake the tortilla chips instead of frying them; brush them lightly with oil and bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes until crispy.
