Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan or two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan(s) and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes for round pans or 30-35 minutes for a rectangular pan, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

- For added flavor, consider adding the zest of one lemon or orange to the batter for a citrus twist.
- You can substitute half of the all-purpose flour with almond flour for a nuttier flavor and slightly denser texture.
