- 8 ounces string cheese or mozzarella cheese sticks
- 1 cup pork rinds, crushed
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying (such as avocado or coconut oil)
Instructions
- Cut each string cheese stick in half to create shorter sticks.
- In a bowl, combine the crushed pork rinds, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- In another bowl, whisk together the egg and water until fully combined.
- Dip each cheese stick into the egg mixture, ensuring it is fully coated.
- Roll the coated cheese stick in the pork rind mixture, pressing gently to adhere the coating. Repeat for all cheese sticks.
- Heat about 1 inch of oil in a frying pan over medium heat until hot (around 350°F).
- Carefully add the coated cheese sticks to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
- Remove the mozzarella sticks from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve warm with your favorite low-carb marinara sauce or ranch dressing for dipping.
Notes
- For a spicy kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the pork rind mixture.
- Try baking the mozzarella sticks instead of frying by placing them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and baking at 400°F for 10-12 minutes until golden and crispy.
