Ingredients

  • 8 ounces string cheese or mozzarella cheese sticks
  • 1 cup pork rinds, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying (such as avocado or coconut oil)

Instructions

  1. Cut each string cheese stick in half to create shorter sticks.
  2. In a bowl, combine the crushed pork rinds, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and water until fully combined.
  4. Dip each cheese stick into the egg mixture, ensuring it is fully coated.
  5. Roll the coated cheese stick in the pork rind mixture, pressing gently to adhere the coating. Repeat for all cheese sticks.
  6. Heat about 1 inch of oil in a frying pan over medium heat until hot (around 350°F).
  7. Carefully add the coated cheese sticks to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  8. Remove the mozzarella sticks from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  9. Serve warm with your favorite low-carb marinara sauce or ranch dressing for dipping.

Notes

  • For a spicy kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the pork rind mixture.
  • Try baking the mozzarella sticks instead of frying by placing them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and baking at 400°F for 10-12 minutes until golden and crispy.
