A delicious and flavorful recipe for Jamaican Beef Patties served with a tangy pickled slaw.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp allspice
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup cabbage, shredded
- 1/2 cup carrots, grated
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix flour and butter until crumbly. Gradually add cold water to form a dough.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- In a skillet, sauté onion and garlic until soft. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
- Stir in allspice, paprika, cayenne, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Roll out the dough and cut into circles. Place a spoonful of beef mixture on one half of each circle.
- Fold the dough over and seal the edges with a fork.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- For the slaw, mix cabbage, carrots, vinegar, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Let sit for 15 minutes before serving.
- Serve the patties warm with pickled slaw on the side.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add more cayenne pepper to the beef mixture.
- These patties can be frozen before baking for later use.
- Adjust the pickling time for the slaw based on your taste preference.
