Description

A hauntingly delicious Italian Tiramisu Coffin Cake perfect for spooky celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)
  • Dark chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13 inch baking dish by greasing and dusting it with flour.
  2. In a spacious bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt, mixing them thoroughly.
  3. Incorporate the softened butter, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract into the dry mix. Use an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes until well blended.
  4. Transfer the batter into your prepared baking dish, smoothing it out evenly.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan.
  6. Once cooled, carve the cake into coffin shapes using a serrated knife.
  7. In a separate bowl, mix the cooled coffee with the coffee liqueur if using.
  8. Dip each coffin-shaped piece into the coffee mixture briefly, ensuring they absorb the flavor without becoming soggy.
  9. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream with the powdered sugar until stiff peaks form, then gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth and creamy.
  10. Layer the soaked cake pieces in a serving dish, adding a generous layer of the mascarpone mixture between each layer.
  11. Continue layering until all cake pieces are stacked, finishing with a layer of the mascarpone mixture on top.
  12. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for the best flavor infusion.
  13. Just before serving, sprinkle dark chocolate shavings on top for a spooky finishing touch.

Notes

  • For a stronger coffee flavor, use a dark roast coffee.
  • Allowing the cake to chill overnight enhances the flavors.
  • Feel free to decorate with additional Halloween-themed toppings.
