Description
A delicious and easy recipe for Char Siu Chicken that is perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, five-spice powder, black pepper, and red food coloring (if using). Whisk until well blended.
- Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat your grill or oven to 400°F. If using a grill, lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.
- Remove the chicken from the marinade, reserving the marinade for basting.
- Grill the chicken for about 6-7 minutes per side, basting with the reserved marinade, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and the chicken is caramelized and slightly charred. If using an oven, place the chicken on a baking sheet lined with foil and bake for 25-30 minutes, basting halfway through.
- Once cooked, remove the chicken from the grill or oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and serve hot.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add 1 teaspoon of sriracha or chili paste to the marinade.
- Serve with steamed rice and stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
