Description
Discover the sweet delight of Hungarian Fried Dough, also known as Churros de Hungary, a delicious treat perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm milk (around 110°F)
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Mix the flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
- In a smaller bowl, activate the yeast by combining it with the warm milk and letting it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
- Pour the yeast mixture into the flour blend, followed by the egg and melted butter. Mix until a cohesive dough forms.
- Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for approximately 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm area for about an hour, or until doubled in size.
- After rising, gently deflate the dough and roll it out to a thickness of about 1/4 inch. Cut into preferred shapes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F.
- Carefully drop the dough pieces into the hot oil, frying until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and let drain on paper towels. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the milk is warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast.
- Experiment with different shapes for the dough pieces.
- Serve warm for the best taste experience.
