Description
Hoosier Sugar Cream Pie is a delightful keto dessert that combines creamy textures with a rich chocolate flavor, perfect for those following a low-carb diet.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1/2 cup powdered erythritol (or preferred keto sweetener)
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup butter, unsalted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 pre-baked keto pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) if you need to warm the pie crust. If using a pre-baked crust, skip this step.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the heavy cream, almond milk, powdered erythritol, cocoa powder, and salt. Stir continuously until the mixture is smooth and begins to thicken, about 5-7 minutes.
- Once thickened, remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in the butter, vanilla extract, and ground nutmeg until fully incorporated.
- Pour the filling into the pre-baked keto pie crust, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, until the filling is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
- Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes. Then, refrigerate for at least 2 hours to fully set before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add 1 tablespoon of instant coffee granules to the filling mixture.
- Top with whipped cream made from heavy cream and a touch of sweetener for an extra indulgent dessert.
- Serve with keto-friendly sides like pork rinds, celery sticks, or cucumber slices for a delightful contrast.
