Description
A refreshing and zesty twist on traditional lemonade, infused with the heat of green chiles.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (approximately 10–12 lemons)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 cups chilled water
- 1–2 fresh green chiles (like jalapeño or serrano), thinly sliced
- Ice cubes
- Lemon wedges and additional green chile slices for decoration
Instructions
- Start by preparing a simple syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water with the sugar. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring frequently until the sugar has completely dissolved. Once dissolved, remove from heat and allow it to cool.
- In a spacious pitcher, pour in the freshly squeezed lemon juice and add the cooled simple syrup. Mix them together until well combined.
- Pour the remaining 3 cups of chilled water into the pitcher and stir until everything is blended smoothly.
- Sample the lemonade and tweak the sweetness according to your preference by adding more sugar or water as needed.
- Introduce the sliced green chiles into the pitcher. If you prefer a milder taste, consider removing the seeds from the chiles before adding them. Allow the mixture to rest for at least 30 minutes so the flavors can meld beautifully.
- Serve the lemonade over ice, garnishing each glass with lemon wedges and extra slices of green chile for an appealing touch.
Notes
- For an extra spicy kick, try muddling the green chiles in the pitcher before adding the lemonade mixture.
- For a refreshing twist, consider incorporating fresh mint leaves or swapping out some of the water for sparkling water to create a bubbly version.
