Description

Warm, fluffy, and infused with the delightful aroma of rosemary, these dinner rolls are perfect for any family gathering or holiday meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried rosemary)
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, yeast, salt, sugar, and rosemary. Mix well.
  2. Add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a rough dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour as needed.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  6. Cover the rolls with the towel again and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. (Optional) Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the rolls for a golden finish.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, try adding minced garlic or grated Parmesan cheese to the dough.
  • You can also substitute the rosemary with other herbs like thyme or oregano for a different twist.
  • For a sweeter roll, consider adding a tablespoon of honey to the dough.
