Description
Feteer Meshaltet with Honey Drizzle is a delightful Egyptian pastry that is flaky, buttery, and perfect for breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup honey (for drizzling)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Mix well to combine the dry ingredients.
- Gradually add the warm water to the dry ingredients, mixing with a wooden spoon or your hands until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal portions.
- Roll each portion into a thin circle (about 1/8 inch thick) on a floured surface.
- Brush melted butter and vegetable oil over each circle, then fold them into quarters to create layers.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook each folded dough for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the skillet and keep warm.
- Drizzle honey over the warm feteer before serving.
Notes
- For a sweeter version, mix cinnamon and sugar into the dough before cooking.
- Serve with fresh fruit or yogurt for a delightful breakfast or dessert option.
