Description

Feteer Meshaltet with Honey Drizzle is a delightful Egyptian pastry that is flaky, buttery, and perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup honey (for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Mix well to combine the dry ingredients.
  2. Gradually add the warm water to the dry ingredients, mixing with a wooden spoon or your hands until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal portions.
  6. Roll each portion into a thin circle (about 1/8 inch thick) on a floured surface.
  7. Brush melted butter and vegetable oil over each circle, then fold them into quarters to create layers.
  8. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook each folded dough for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Remove from the skillet and keep warm.
  10. Drizzle honey over the warm feteer before serving.

Notes

  • For a sweeter version, mix cinnamon and sugar into the dough before cooking.
  • Serve with fresh fruit or yogurt for a delightful breakfast or dessert option.
